Natural rubber (NR) compounding

Natural rubber’s properties, including excellent tear and abrasion resistance, continue to make it the preferred choice for a number of applications as a primary or secondary compounding material in the recipe.

Natural rubber properties

Natural polyisoprene has good resilience, abrasion and surface friction properties and excellent compression set. It has low hysteresis and rolling resistance with high fatigue resistance and remains flexible at low temperatures.

Natural rubber has poor resistance to oil, sunlight and ozone and limited thermal capability.

Natural polyisoprene applications

NR has a broad range of desirable properties and can be blended with many polymers. Natural rubber continues to be used for many applications rather than synthetic rubber, particularly for dynamic uses, because it works.

Natural rubber’s superior tear strength and excellent resistance to heat buildup continues to make it a favored ingredient for high-performance tires for racecars, trucks, buses and aircraft. Other applications include tank lining, engine mounts, seals, vibration dampening and diaphragms.

The quality of natural rubber compounds is highly dependent on good mixing methods. Preferred consistently produces high-quality natural rubber compounds in sponge, sheets, slab, strip and calendared.

Preferred’s technical and sales teams can help you determine which natural and synthetic polymers provide the performance you need.

Custom rubber compounding

Preferred Compounding is a full service custom rubber compounder. As a Preferred customer/partner, you gain access to our comprehensive support resources.

Full service and support

Preferred’s technical services staff includes chemists with decades of experience. They formulate and optimize custom elastomeric compounds to achieve the desired field performance, manufacturability and cost for your compounds.

Through the custom compounding recipe, we can engineer the extent and rate of curing, processing characteristics, final properties, performance and cost.

10,000 compounding ingredients

We work with more than 10,000 compounding polymers and other ingredients and more than 100 rubber mixing and processing variables.

We produce compounded elastomers in strips, slabs, pellets and calendered sheet. We also provide filtering by gear-pump straining.
